50 of the coolest gifts for teens: Hoodie blankets, glitter freckles, digital cameras and more

50 of the coolest gifts for teens: Hoodie blankets, glitter freckles, digital cameras and more

Newsflash: Teens are hard to shop for! It's a universal fact, and one I know well from experience. I've written hundreds of gift guides throughout my career as a shopping expert, and through it all I always find that teens are universally challenging to buy a Christmas gift for.

Quick Overview

Part of it is because younger teens and tweens might still be into the obsessions of their childhood, while older teens are inching closer toward adulthood and the myriad complexities that come with it. The interests of a 13-year-old are a heck of a lot different than those of a 17-year-old, after all.

But it's not just the age differences that makes teens a tough nut to crack. They don't remember a world in which your personal style was limited to the fashion carried by the stores in your local mall or whatever you were able to find via mail order catalogues. Instead, they've grown up in a world consumed by online shopping, where anything you could ever want is just a few clicks and a couple of business days away.

Still, no matter what phase of life teens are in, there are some cool and unique teen gifts I've discovered through the years that are universally beloved, like the glitter freckles that Taylor Swift wore earlier this year or a LEGO set that's perfect for a Nintendo fan. Whether they're into movies and music, or makeup and mochas from Starbucks, below we've sourced several of the best gifts out there for teen girls and boys, from stocking stuffers for under $5 to splurgy big-ticket gifts over $100.

Sometimes you just want to stay wrapped up in a blanket all day, and on those days you'll want to reach for a Hideout Hoodie from Big Blanket Co. These massively oversized hoodies are basically blankets disguised as clothing, but they include a few cozy extras like sherpa lining, a built-in eye mask, zippered kangaroo pouch and cuffed sleeve with thumb holes for optimal lounging.

$103 at Big Blanket Co.

I.E. the glitter freckles that Taylor Swift was spotted wearing earlier this year. These glitter freckle speckles are easy to apply: just add the patch, pat them on and peel to reveal instant glam. To remove, use a gentle oil-based cleanser.

"Had to get these for my teenager after I saw Taylor Swift wearing them," wrote one happy reviewer. "They are so pretty! She just loved them and they looked beautiful for her homecoming dance."
