Border Collie's Cute Way of ‘Gentle Parenting’ Their Sibling Is Such a Delight

Ever feel like you're being torn in a million little pieces as a parent? Then perhaps you need a Border Collie. Seriously — they're the best. We're not saying that you could leave a Collie in charge of a gaggle of kids. But they can certainly come in handy when it comes to other animals in the house. Or maybe it's just one Collie, who was caught "gentle parenting" their fur-sibling when they were acting up.

These two definitely have a special relationship. But nothing could've prepared us for when one of the Collie's shushed the other.

Is this totally cool or sort of strange? We can't decide. But it definitely goes to prove that dogs truly are the most surprising creatures.

In the video that the Border Collies' owner shared, it shows one of the dogs calming down the other. He even put his paw in the air and lowered it, like he was telling the other dog to drop the toy they were holding — then things got even stranger. The Collie started petting the other dog! It's hard to know what exactly was going on there. Even their owner was so confused.

"My only explanation is Border Collies," she joked.

The comments section was in stitches. "You're at a 10 Imma need you to bring it down to a 3," joked one person. "Did that Border Collie just gentle parent the other one so they’d calm down?" wondered another commenter. "I bet he’s so annoyed that you got him all riled up after he just got him to settle down," added one person. "That’s a very overstimulated parent that just wants a nap," someone else joked.

Is It Okay to Use a Bark Collar?

Many people pointed out that the Collie was wearing a bark collar. A device that is meant to discourage your dog from barking by emitting an unpleasant sensation, whether that be a shock, sound, or spray, when they make a noise. It might seem like a good way to curb your dog's barking — especially if they are the chatty type. But long term these devices might do more harm than good.

On the surface level, bark collars can lead to burns, skin irritation, and muscle spasms. Emotionally, they can be worse. Dogs who wear bark collars can suffer from anxiety and hypervigilance. They might be less responsive to their owners and may actually become more aggressive. Obviously we don't know the backstory on this pup's collar. But if you're really curious, talk to your vet. They can help you find some ways to stop all the barking — without a collar.
