TikTok influencer and Charleston resident Clara Peirce has 1.1 million followers on the video platform. Her most viral clips aren’t of the 20-something bebopping around the Holy City dining at its impeccable restaurants and shopping down its cute alleyways. Instead, people flock to her account to see her cleaning vlogs in which Peirce tidies her home from top to bottom in the time in which it takes her to wash and dry her sheets. She’s dubbed her routine her "Sunday Reset," and with videos eclipsing 2.2 million views, she is definitely inspiring someone—including me. On my best Sundays (let’s be real, some weekends are made for bed-rotting), I toss my sheets in the washer, too, telling myself to "pace it like Peirce" and silently promising that once the sheets are back on the bed, my cleaning day is complete.

Sometimes, though, when I just can’t devote several hours to cleaning, there’s something about getting my bedroom orderly that is almost as good. Starting and ending the day with a clean bedroom creates an instant sense of accomplishment. Who wouldn’t want to start their day getting at least one thing checked off the to do list?

To get a few more tips about getting a bedroom spic and span swiftly, I chatted with Gabriela Fluerariu. With 50 hotel rooms to flip daily, Fluerariu knows how to quickly and efficiently clean a bedroom from top to bottom.

What Is The Best First Step To Cleaning My Bedroom?

Finding motivation to begin cleaning is the first step to getting started, and to be fair, that’s sometimes the hardest part. Fluerariu says to start with decluttering and clearing, then strip the linens to remake the bed. “I feel like once the bed is made, the room will feel cleaner,” she says.

Getting extra crisp, wrinkle-free sheets doesn’t involve a steamer or an iron. “My trick is to use a bottle sprayer with a few drops of softener combined with water and spray it on the sheets. From there, you smooth it down and tuck it in tightly to make it look nice and comfortable,” she says. Next think strategically about surfaces. Start higher and work lower, so that dust slowly comes to the floor. Mop and vacuum last. Fluerariu says the key is to have a specific order of operations that works for you. “If there isn’t a set order, it takes more time.”

Tips

Use a bottle sprayer with a few drops of softener combined with water and spray it on the sheets.

Can I Clean My Bedroom Effectively Without Using Harsh Chemicals?

The short answer is yes! More natural solutions like baking soda, white vinegar, lemon juice, and essential oils can be swapped for common household cleaners, or you can stick with those familiar, big box brands. Like a typical hotel room, your bedroom likely has many surfaces to care for, and there are products for each one. However, you can streamline the process by using multipurpose products where appropriate. These save time and storage space.

Fluerariu says to avoid products with bleach to prevent strong odors. Plus, multipurpose sprays aren’t a solution for every cleaning problem. “For example, when used on glass, it can leave streaks, which leads to double the cleaning, so make sure to have a glass cleaner on hand,” she says.

What Are Some Daily Habits To Keep My Bedroom Tidy?

It is often said that it takes 21 days to form a new habit, which isn’t really that long at all! You can start by completing simple tasks each day to keep your room from harboring clutter. Beyond making the bed, as discussed above, make an effort to put things away in their proper home each night. Dirty clothes go in the hamper; jewelry is set in a dish or stored in a box, and shoes are organized.

In the morning, do the same thing after getting dressed for the day, and take the extra step to remove any overnight items such as water glasses and sleeping masks from your bedside table. I like the five-minute timer trick. I will set a timer for exactly five minutes and devote that time to tidying. I often find that I will either complete the room before the timer ends, or will spend a few extra minutes after it alarms to finish up.

Tips

Set a timer for exactly five minutes and devote that time to tidying.

How Often Should I Deep Clean My Bedroom?

A true deep clean is necessary seasonally. Think about it in terms of quarters, and aim to do a total reset every three to four months. During that time, you will want to complete the usual tasks like washing bedding and mopping, but also add in vacuuming your mattress, organizing closets and drawers, and dusting windows, fans, and other hard to reach surfaces.
