Mom Teaches Her Mini Highland Cow a New Trick & He Clearly Understands the Assignment

I've learned so much about pets and animals after writing about them for the last couple of years. One thing that I somehow missed though was that cows could learn tricks, as you'll see in this video that The Husky Fam shared at the end of November. Milo is a mini–Highland cow who learned how to roll around on his big toy ball after watching his mom do it a few times, and it's pretty impressive to watch happen!

The video starts with mom showing Milo what she wants him to do. At first, he looks at her like she's crazy. But after another time or two, he gives it a shot himself. Watch on to see the two take turns playing on the ball!

People loved watching mom teach Milo a new trick; The Husky Fam's video went viral and has more than 7 million views, nearly a million likes, and close to 5 thousand comments. @Melissa got close to 44 thousand likes when she pointed out, "He’s so focused watching you. That’s so cute!" I laughed and agreed with what @Kala Rath said, "He pays attention to instructions better than my children." @Callie wasn't wrong when she said, 'This is so silly and amazing! 10/10!"

Can Cows Learn How to Do Tricks?

Commenter @Sloth Froth shared, "I get the feeling he doesn't derive much enjoyment out of the activity itself but does it anyway because he thinks you enjoy it, like we do with babies and toddlers LOL!" and @Robbie_joy2604 added, "Contrary to what many people believe, cows are intelligent, emotional and loving big fur babies!" I wondered if Milo learning this ball trick was a one-off, or if all cows can learn to do tricks.

Cattle Tricks 101 says yes, they sure can learn how to do tricks, "They can learn many tricks, almost anything you can think of. Among these tricks can be very useful tricks like standing to be milked, leading, assuming a show pose, or loading in the trailer. Teaching our cattle skills for easy handling can make both humans and animals lives better."

In fact, teaching a cow a trick is relatively easy they say because cows are very food-oriented and "are willing to do almost anything to earn a treat." As you could see in Milo's video, they can learn quickly, and their long-term memories ensure they remember something the next time it comes up again.

Cows are extremely intelligent. They have complex emotions and great memories, too. Like dogs and other animals, they have hierarchical social structures and can have best friends and long-lasting relationships with other cows, and other animals. They can think through and solve complex problems and use things going on around them (like movements and sound) to solve problems.

I wish I had room for cows! They're such sweet and affectionate animals, and I'd love to have a couple of my own.
