‘Today’ Fans Are ‘Crying’ Over Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie’s ‘So Sweet’ Friendship Moment Caught on Video
Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie left fans “crying” over a shared moment of friendship that was caught on video on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
The Today show stars were at Rockefeller Center in New York City to attend the annual Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony. While covering the lighting of the gigantic tree—a version of which has graced the plaza every holiday season in a tradition dating back to the early 1930s— Kotb and Guthrie were standing with their arms linked and microphones in their free hands when they noticed a sudden change in the weather.

The two were filmed looking up as a light snow began dusting the city. At one point, Kotb, 60, and Guthrie, 52, exchanged surprised smiles and briefly touched their heads, seemingly appreciating the moment and the ability to enjoy it together.
“Taking in the moment. 🤍 It’s snowing at Rockefeller Center!” the NBC show’s official Instagram account wrote to caption the video clip.
Fans gushed over the co-hosts’ friendship moment in the comment section, with one writing, “This is so sweet! 🥹,” as another echoed, “nooo i’m crying this is so sweet❤️❤️.”
While one fan applauded the “love and comfort” on display in the video, others expressed sorrow as they remembered that this year’s tree lighting will be the last Kotb attends as a Today show co-host. The mom of two is expected to retire early next year, a decision she announced back in September.
“I was crying just thinking that this was the last time together doing this!” one fan commented, as another wrote, “This is so sweet 🥹 we miss you already @hodakotb.”
“So very sweet watching Hoda live in the moment and soak it all in. I will miss her daily reminders laced with optimistic perspective,” an Instagram user shared.
“These are the moments that prove miracles happen every day,” a fan wrote before addressing Kotb and Guthrie directly. “Thanks for sharing your gift of friendship with the world, @hodakotb and @savannahguthrie. ❤️.”
