“The View”'s new Christmas backdrop adds unintentionally hilarious holiday touch to serious political interview
Have you ever thought to yourself, Wow, I wish this doomsday discussion of American politics amid the existential threat of autocratic terror smelled a little bit like peppermint and holly? Well, The View is here to roast the chestnuts of your mind's eye with its new, unintentionally hilarious Christmas set!
The program debuted new scenery on Thursday's show, with Christmas trees, jolly trimmings, and more drawing an enthused reaction from Alyssa Farah Griffin at the top of the episode, just before plunging into a Hot Topics debate about the journalistic ethics of Morning Joe cohosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough meeting with the president-elect for a background discussion.
Then, a mere 20 days after observing that Griffin looked "ridiculous" for wearing an elf hat to the Hot Topics table, Joy Behar took Yuletide immersion one step further. Thanks to the festive new backdrop, the beloved autumnal palm-stabber and comedian appeared to broadcast live from inside the Thomas Kinkade painting hanging above your grandmother's sofa for a multi-segment interview with Sen. John Fetterman via webcam.

Joy Behar interviews Sen. John Fetterman on 'The View'Behar seemingly braved the blustery conditions that backdropped her as she asked the Pennsylvania politician about "bipartisan backlash" amid President Joe Biden's decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, for felony gun and tax convictions.
As the 82-year-old cohost spoke of political turmoil in the nation ahead of Donald Trump's inauguration, rolling hills lined with snow-dusted evergreens and other various wintry fauna framed her remarks, with the soft glow of a golden, gaslit lamppost adding a warm seasonal smoothness to the picture.
Cohost Sara Haines inadvertently lightened the mood when she popped in to ask Fetterman about various allegations against one of Trump's cabinet picks, while a menorah rested gently over her right shoulder and a sparkling pine tree emerged on the other side. Not to be outdone, Griffin chimed in while seated in front of twinkling Christmas lights to ask if "the Biden administration has done enough to free the hostages" amid the Israeli military's sustained assault on Gaza.
In the middle of his answer, Fetterman's less-decorative webcam feed abruptly cut out, leaving the show with a blank screen and echoes of Behar's concern: "Oh, we lost him!" she exclaimed. "We lost the satellite. It happens."

Thursday's episode proved that holiday celebration is alive and well on The View set, after producer Brian Teta ignited panic among fans earlier this fall when he announced the cohosts would not dress in costumes for the show's annual Halloween episode due to the typically pre-taped seasonal special's proximity to the November presidential election.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.
